Company History

Chris Medlock, the managing director of Radioswap, first became interested in two way radios when he was introduced to CB radio in 1982. He kept up the interest on and off until the mid 90s when he discovered professional two way radios which he used whilst working as a financial adviser.

In 1999, after having spent a few years “dabbling” in the sidelines of the Radio Communications Industry he left the insurance industry to establish his own company.
What he had discovered was that no one knew what to do with their second user and surplus equipment, so he established Radioswap, to deal with this kind of equipment – click on the eBay link to grab yourself one of these great 'used' bargains.
Initially the company only dealt with other radio communications companies, but it became obvious with the amount of stock he was buying he would need to also sell to end users. As many people will know, Chris used to attend a number of amateur radio rallies.
In 2002 when Ofcom introduced the UK General – now Business Radio Light licence - at only £75 for 5 years, Radioswap took full advantage of this, and it allowed the business to sell high powered two way radios ready to use.
Radioswap has always been very innovative and in 2004/2005 it began to import products from the Far East; battery packs, chargers and earpieces. This allowed the company to supply excellent quality products to both resellers and end users at much better prices than had been previously available.
Around this time the emergency services started to migrate from analogue radios to a new digital TETRA system. Radioswap assisted a wide range of Police, Fire, Ambulance and Prison services to decommission and recycle many tens of thousands of radios over a seven year period.
Until 2005 Radioswap primarily dealt in second user and surplus stock, but with the addition of its import products, and by request from trade customers the company also started supplying new equipment to both trade and retail customers.
Chris believes the company has supplied over 100,000 radios since it began trading and has supplied equipment to well over 10,000 customers including:
Multi-Nationals Blue Chip Companies Banks Major Supermarket Chains
Large Retail Chains Security Companies Event Companies Engineering Companies
Schools Colleges Warehousing Traffic Managment
Shipping & Marine Farmers Gamekeepers Pubs
Night Clubs Casinos RAYNET Radio Hams
Mountain Rescue Air Training Corps Sea Cadets Scout Troops
Radioswap serve, on average, 300 customers each month.
